the easiest way to find out the original scale from an mp3 is to match that song against sa-pa-sa combination in keyboard. If an mp3 is matching with sa-pa-sa combination then obviously that song is in C.

if its matching with ri - da- ri combination, then that song is in D.. and so on.. You may have to try a few songs prior to identifying scales correctly. After all practice makes you perfect.

Could you please explain with an example. A very simple malayalam song is enough. Please use "en swaram poovidum". I did't get the sa-pa-sa and ri-sa-ri i.e. why.

it's simple - if you try with a keyboard, you can see that the whole song is in sync with 'two katta sruti' (randu katta sruti). This is equavalent to re - dha - ri .
This is is again equal to D scale in western. Hope this helps.
