follow these steps:

1. open song in audacity
2. select single line at a time - play it in loop (shift + space bar plays the selected portion in loop)
3. Listen to it as many time you want - until it gets stuck in your mind - play it along as many times..
4. You will soon start writing notes like a pro.

another approach:
it's not easy as said above, but is suitable for people who are experienced in carnatic.

till step 3 is correct - as said above.

4. now you have to identify the scale of the song - or the key note in which is the song is set.
5. transpose the keyboard to that note
6. now it's easy to play it along and get the notes..
