it is very easy to convert an acoustic guitar into a lapsteel guitar. a special raised nut-bridge is fixed over the existing nut to raiise the strings by about half an inch. the guitar is then tuned to an open E or an open A. guitar is placed on the lap, a tone bar or a slide is used to play the notes with the left palm and the strings are picked with the right middle, index and the thumb wearing finger picks. the raised nut-bridge, tone bar and three finger picks will cost around Rs.500 max.
guys try it its lots of fun.
cheers.

Do you have the same frets on lap-steel guitar, compared to the ones we have in guitar?

What's the difference between ha-wain guitar and lap-steel guitar? are they same?

yes same frets. in india many refer it as hawaiian which is actually an accoustic version. now with changes in sound box it is called the DOBRO.
the lapsteel has pickups and one needs an amp, however, it has tons of sustain and hence more suited for hindi songs.
the style of playing remains the same for both. hence one can graduate from a hawaiian/dobro to a lapsteel without problems as in my case.
