    Vara Veena Mrudu Paani

    Hi Jim

When I transcribed from an mp3, the Scale find is G#m i.e. the notes starting from G#G#BB, why this deference. Could you please explain.

In western we have different scales for different songs. One song may be in C and some other song may be in D. The person who is trying out has to stick with the same scale. This is perfect from the perspective of western.

But when it comes to Carnatic it needn't be the case. We don't have similar ones for scales (though some people call it as Raga). You need to stick with sa - pa - sa combinations. All songs you can play in C scale. This is how the carnatic is defined. You can't switch scales here but you can select another note (other than C) as your base note. So it acts somewhat similar to scales in western. But coming back to the point, you will have the same notation mechanism (sa to ni) even if the original song is in D.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Hi Administrator

Could you please help me finding the original scales. How we can find the scale from an mp3. Is there any easy way for except key finder software or software like WIDI Professional. Please.....

    Regards
