I think the bottom line is how good you are at damage control. We are all humans and hence we all make mistakes. Its what jimsweb has said here point number 5.
NOTHING CAN BEAT PRACTICE. and then he says..
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO MANAGE MISTAKES ON THE FLY.

JIMSWEB, YOU HIT THE NAIL ON ITS HEAD.

:) that's my experience. It differs from person to person.

Never worry about a performance, worry about the music.. practice and make it perfect.. make it part of our day today life.. When we reach this stage, there are no mistakes - Everything is pure music..

Recently I was in contact with a musician from UK. And it seems most musicians use BETA BLOCKERS in some form or the other before concerts.
They control anxiety to a great extent.

Anyone here heard of this?

What is a beta blocker?

Beta blockers, also known as beta-adrenergic blocking agents, are medications that reduce your blood pressure. Beta blockers work by blocking the effects of the hormone epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. When you take beta blockers, the heart beats more slowly and with less force, thereby reducing blood pressure.

What do beta blockers do for anxiety?

Beta blockers work by blocking the effects of norepinephrine, a stress hormone involved in the fight-or-flight response. This helps control the physical symptoms of anxiety such as rapid heart rate, a trembling voice, sweating, dizziness, and shaky hands
